| A few years ago, the only way a producer had to know how his cattle performed at the packer was to assume more financial risk and sell them "in the beef." The risk was enormous with little or no genetic carcass information available. Yet, at Wulf Limousin Farm, we knew the keys to developing dependable genetics from conception to consumer involved risks. We were willing to take the risks to insure our future and that of our customers for many years to come.
Today, as in the beginning, our 750 head cow herd is the proving ground. At no point along the way have we been willing to sacrifice economic maternal traits of the cowherd to produce a better carcass. The result is a cowherd average for milk that is almost 7 times greater than breed average, while maintaining average growth traits that are 2 and 3 times greater than breed average. For over 15 years we have collected carcass data on all of our cattle and today have the largest, most dependable carcass data banks in the breed. Although "alliance" is terminology attached to stronger commercial - purebred - packer relationships today, Wulf Limousin began to form those relationships 2 decades ago. we called it customer service! Today, we feed more than 6,000 Limousin-cross cattle, most supplied by our bull customers. We sell our beef to packers that recognize the value of a lean, healthy, high quality Limousin product. Financial risks in the cattle business are greater today than ever before. But, knowing our product from conception to consumer, providing knowledge and experience to our customers and bringing a quality beef product to the retail customers enables Wulf Limousin to manage those risks and look forward to many more years of progress.
